![]() ![]() Surely we would have heard a bassist not playing bass if he’s using his note hand to bully his guys? What could have happened? Was he upset? Was he just getting the boys riled up? I found it odd that his punching didn’t change any noticeable tone in the music. It was odd because that was with his note hand JUST as they started playing. I noticed the bassist early on in the set was punching/jabbing at the members. Men In Black are real!) or a woman rushing them off stage. So while I didn’t see any mysterious Saudi financiers (though I did see 2 kids in fedoras and trench coats present. I was in the middle of the pit a few rows back. I was present at the Detroit show where of course the Steens opened, as others have stated One thing's for sure: it was fucking weird and interesting. then we had 40 minutes to consider what the fuck just happened before the Viagra Brothers came out and mopped the floor with us. The Toronto set was 19 minutes of weird false starts, lip synching, and aggro/hype posturing, with the highpoint being when a Nirvana song came on over the PA and a few band members hopped in the pit lol. Their interview responses seem like something out of a mockumentary and they're just too god damn buff and attitudey. They also conveniently had towels on their heads to make their mouths harder to see. there are also no backup singers providing the backing vocals, and the bass player is often too caught up in the pro wrestling/slap-fighting show to strum along in time. is just this song played through the PA: Identical!īoth in recorded sets and during the Toronto show, the lead "singer's" mic is piping-hot between songs, but then miraculously drops to these recording levels once the "song" "starts". I suspect the same! At least for some songs? Has anyone done any research since the Salt Shed show and found out anything about The Steens? I'd love to hear others' thoughts. The best thing about them was they played for only 19 minutes. I don't know if the band is owned by a rich Saudi person or if they are some type of social experiment. And to top it off, there were these Saudia Arabian guys who were filming them on their phones within the barriers and singing along (they were the only ones who knew the words to the songs). Also the singer dove into the crowd without a microphone and vocals continued, so they may have been lip syncing the whole time. ![]() I don't think the bass player and one of the guitarists were plugged in when they opened for Viagra Boys a couple of weeks ago. Now the Salt Shed has announced The Steens are opening for Iggy Pop tonight.įirst let me share my notes from the Viagra Boys show. I know there were a few posts after The Steens opened for Viagra Boys a couple of weeks ago.
